Il gentleman moderno è un uomo attivo, sempre pronto a tuffarsi in nuove avventure, dinamico e che non pensa a restare sul divano a guardarsi l'ultima serie televisiva ma preferisce tuffarsi e surfare qualche onda. Per questo l'orologio che deve portare al polso è un orologio robusto, affidabile e allo stesso tempo elegante che deve anche fare la sua bella figura indossato con un completo e una camicia.
Ci sono tante marche di orologi svizzeri famose, che hanno tra i loro prodotti il diver, la Rolex ha il Submariner, l'Omega ha il Seamaster, per citare i più famosi, ma ci sono aziende non così blasonate che offrono una pari qualità ad un prezzo molto più accessibile. Oggi voglio parlare di un orologio prodotto da una di queste azienda, la Orient.

La Orient è una casa giapponese produttrice di orologi, specializzata in orologi automatici, che è una delle principali aziende nel suo paese. Nasce nel 1901 ed è la quarta casa giapponese per importanza, ma a differenza di altre case che con l'arrivo del quarzo hanno preferito modificare i meccanismi, la Orient ha preferito restare fedele ai movimenti automatici, che sono anche i movimenti preferiti per chi apprezza gli orologi di lusso. Una delle note positive di questa casa è che produce i meccanismi autonomamente, quindi tutto l'orologio è realizzato dalla casa stessa. Ad oggi il 70% della produzione è utilizza ancora la carica meccanica automatica, e solo il 30% altri tipi di meccanismi.

Orient Ray

L'orologio di cui parlo oggi è secondo me uno dei più belli della casa, e forse anche uno dei più belli in senso assoluto. Il Ray è una validissima alternativa ai diver di case più importanti svizzere, vedi Rolex e Omega. Ha una ghiera unidirezionale, un indicatore posto a ore 3 per la data e il giorno, è di ottima costruzione con un vetro minerale molto resistente (questa forse è l'unica pecca, non aver un vetro zaffiro) e con le altre parti completamente in acciaio. Ha due corone, entrambe a vite, quella classica posta a ore 3 per modificare l'ora, mentre quella posta ad ore 2 serve per modificare il giorno della settimana. Il movimento è come detto precedentemente automatico, con una riserva di carica di circa 40 ore, ed è resistente all'acqua fino ad una profondità di 200 metri.
Il Ray presenta sul quadrande i "bicchierini", cioè non presenta numeri ma sfere, ad eccetto delle ore 3 in cui è presente il datario. Le lancette sono ben visibili e la fluorescenza è ottima, il che garantisce una chiara visibilità anche in condizioni più estreme.
L'Orient Ray è disponibile in 3 colorazioni, con il quadrante nero, con il quadrante arancio e quella che preferisco con il quadrante blu.
Ora veniamo alla nota veramente positiva. Per un orologio con queste caratteristiche, di marca come Rolex o Omega il prezzo e' di qualche migliaio di euro, il Ray si può trovare online a circa 200/250 euro. Fantastico!
